Lights, decorations, and culture: OTV’s ‘Ama Sahi Medha 2025’ contest adds spark to Gajalakshmi Puja

The annual Gajalakshmi Puja celebrations in Kendrapara have gained further excitement this year with OTV’s ‘Ama Sahi Medha’ competition. The event has seen enthusiastic participation from around 68 Medhas, each competing to showcase their creativity and devotion.

A panel of judges nominated by OTV is evaluating the Medhas across seven categories, including Medha-to-Medha lighting decoration, beautiful Medha, Toran (decorative arch), side deities, Best Puja Committee, Bhog (offerings), and Mahalakshmi’s ornaments. The results of the competition are scheduled to be announced on the 12th of this month.

“Our district, Kendrapara, has earned 2nd position in the best Gajalaxmi Puja celebrations in Odisha. This ‘Ama Sahi Medha’ initiative by OTV is indeed commendable and one of its kind for the Kendrapara district. So, I thank OTV for this special programme,” stated Dr Girijakant Das. 

The Kendrapara Gajalakshmi Puja draws large crowds of devotees every evening, who actively participate in the spiritual and cultural programs. The celebrations are further enlivened by the Meenabazar fair, where devotees enjoy local delicacies and festive activities alongside the religious events.

Organisers and the OTV team have expressed satisfaction with the enthusiastic participation and the vibrant decorations, highlighting the competition’s role in promoting cultural heritage and community involvement during the festival.

The event has become a major attraction, bringing together devotion, creativity, and social celebration in Kendrapara.
