Bhubaneswar: As many as 12 persons were killed in Khurda and Cuttack districts in separate incidents after being struck by lightning today.
Reports reaching here say four persons of Kaipadar village in Khurda district died when lightning struck them while two persons died on the spot at Kusamati of Jatani area in the district.
The incident occured when victims were working at a stone quarry in Kaipadar village under Khurda Sadar PS. The deceased were identified as Ashwin Patra, Mahima Patra, Samrendra Routray and Trinath Gajendra.
Meanwhile, in Jatani area lightning killed Madhusudan Ray and Santan Behera who were sitting in their verandah.
Besides, 6 were injured at different places in today's natural disaster and have been admitted to Khurda District Hospital.
Similarly, five deaths have been reported from Cuttack district. While two persons were killed at Badasamantarapur of Choudwar, one woman each at Kochila, Jagatpur and Laxmanpur in the region died due to the natural disaster.
Lighting also killed one person in Talasara PS of Sundergarh district.
