Bhubaneswar: Normalcy returned in the Kalahandi district today after vehicular traffic movement on NH 26 was resumed as flood water receded. Heavy showers in catchments of Hati river had caused disruption in vehicular movement on the highway.

Similarly, water levels also receded in villages like Biripur, Balichara and Matikai under Kalampur block in Kalahandi district.

However, ripe paddy crop of late summer variety, which was in the process of being harvested in different blocks of Koraput and Kalahandi districts, has been affected due to lack of proper storage facilities and heavy rainfall.

Official sources said power generation at 600MW Upper Indravati Hydro-power plant has been resumed today. The state-run Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) had shut down the power station yesterday due to flash floods in Hati river.

On the other hand, situation has improved in Rayagada district as the water levels in Bansadhara and Nagabali rivers have started receding after it crossed the danger level.

Meanwhile, the meteorological department has predicted that a few places in the state would receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in next 24 hrs as the low pressure formed over Bay of Bengal has weakened.
