Rourkela: A one-day economic blockade was launched by the lawyers’ association to put pressure on Odisha government to set up a permanent bench of Orissa High Court and grant district status to Rourkela. Normal life was completely thrown out of gear on account of the blockade today.

The agitating lawyers staged a demonstration by locking up court at Uditnagar and urged judges to boycott court proceedings. Besides, they also picketed before all State and Central government offices in different parts of the city today. Sources said, the laywers and other outfits have been demanding special revenue district status for Rourkela by annexing Bonai and Rourkela-Panposh sub-divisions.

“We have staged demonstration in front of all Central and State government offices today. We hope that it will put pressure on the State government to fulfil our demands. As per the unanimous decision, a one-day economic blockade was staged today and we will stage a three-day or indefinite economic blockade in coming days,” said President of Rourkela Bar Association, Satya Sharma.
