Lawyer alleges assault by police personnel in Jeypore, bar council seeks inquiry
A young lawyer has alleged that he was assaulted by police personnel in Jeypore on Tuesday, triggering concern and resentment within the legal fraternity.
The lawyer, identified as G. Raj Shekhar, a member of the Jeypore District Bar Association, has accused the police of subjecting him to inhuman treatment.
State Bar Council Demands Inquiry
Following the allegation, the Secretary of the State Bar Council has written to the Koraput Superintendent of Police, demanding a thorough and impartial inquiry into the incident.
In the letter, the Bar Council has sought a fair investigation into the circumstances under which the alleged assault took place and has urged the authorities to take appropriate action if the allegations are found to be true.
The incident has sparked widespread dissatisfaction among members of the Bar Association, who have expressed serious concern over the alleged conduct of the police. Lawyers said such incidents undermine the rule of law and raise questions about the safety and dignity of members of the legal profession.
Meanwhile, no official response has been received from the Town Police Station officer or the Koraput SP regarding the allegations. Authorities have yet to issue any clarification or statement on the matter.
