Lady SI Manhandled While Settling Family Dispute In Odisha Village

Keonjhar: A lady Sub-Inspector of Ghasipura Police Station here sustained injuries after she was allegedly manhandled by some villagers of Padanpur last night. The incident took place when she had gone to the village to resolve a family dispute.

According to reports, a team led by the lady SI Anusuya Sethi reached the village after receiving information about a village meeting organised to resolve a family dispute.

Sources said the meeting was called to ward off misunderstanding between a couple - Padmalochan and Padmini who had tied the knots some ten years back. When the meeting did not yield any result, police intervened and decided to take both the parties to the police station.

Opposing action of the police, a few villagers allegedly attacked them during which the SI sustained injuries. The police team was later rescued from the clutches of the villagers while SI Sethi has been sent to hospital for a check-up.

Anandapur SDPO Bidyut Panda has assured that stringent action would be taken after a probe. "Our police team reached the village after a report was filed over a family dispute. An on-duty lady SI was attacked by one of the villagers and she has sustained an eye injury. We've registered a case in this connection and action would be taken as per law," Panda said.

Speaking to media persons, Padmalochan said that he was annoyed with his wife as she didn't take care of his elderly parents, while his wife alleged that she was tortured by her in-laws.
