Lady PEO Death: Family Of Deceased Smitarani Flees Village Citing Threats

Jajpur: Two days after alleging threat to their lives, the family members of deceased Haridaspur panchayat executive officer (PEO) Smitarani Biswal have left their village and taken shelter in their relative’s house.

Smitarani’s father Sadananda Biswal, mother, husband and daughter have reportedly left Choramuha village and moved to their relatives’ house in Talcher. While their house remained locked, the security personnel deployed to give protection are still guarding the house.

According to sources, Sadananda is planning to settle down either in Delhi or Mumbai where his sons stay.

Earlier, expressing dissatisfaction over the probe into his daughter’s death, Sadananda had alleged that there is threat to their lives as those who killed his daughter might also attack them.

On the other hand, the woman wing of BJP today threatened to intensify agitation against rising attrocities against women  by launching a state-wide demonstration on November 5.

Addressing a presser in Bhubaneswar, BJP Mahila Morcha leader Prabhati Parida informed that the party will hold demonstrations in front of offices of district collectors across the State on November 5.

“More than two weeks have passed, but the truth behind the death of the lady PEO is yet to be brought to lime light. The remark of Jajpur SP Charan Singh Meena on the lady PEO is condemnable. We demand action against him. We will also protest against harassment of women at workplace,” said Parida.

The BJP Mahila Morcha is also demanding dismissal of Jajpur SP and Chairperson of State Commission for Women and a CBI probe into the case.

Congress MLA Sura Routray also reiterated demand for a CBI probe into the death of PEO Smitarani Biswal. He threatened to stall Odisha Assembly proceedings over the issue.
