Kandhamal: Police on Friday detained a jawan for allegedly raping a woman home guard posted at G Udaygiri area of Kandhamal district here in Odisha.

The accused jawan has been identified as Tulu Pradhan, a jawan of Bihar Regiment, an infantry regiment of the Indian Army, sources said. Tulu hails from Penagabhari village under Tikabali police limits in Kandhamal district and had recently come to his village on furlough.

According to reports, the lady home guard was alone in her house when when Tulu barged into the quarters and allegedly raped her. The matter came to light after the survivor lodged a complaint against the jawan at G Udaygiri police station today.

Basing on the complaint, police detained the accused and are interrogating him in connection with the incident.

"The lady Home Guard yesterday lodged a complaint alleging that the jawan came to her house on June 14 night, assaulted and later raped her. A case has been registered in this regard. The woman has been sent to hospital for medical examination while the accused is being interrogated. Action will be taken once the investigation is completed," said Inspector In-charge Balakrishna Kanhara, G Udaygiri police station.
