Phulbani: Adding to the sorry tale of Odisha’s track record of being in the top-10 infamous states in the country where the crime rate against women is worryingly high, a lady doctor in Boudh district on Tuesday lodged a police complaint against a man for allegedly sexually harassing her in the pretext of marriage.

According to the complaint by the lady doctor, one Amulya Kumar Padhi, who worked as a Block Programme Manager, developed love relationship with her two years ago and even promised her to marry her.

However, as days continued to pass, when the lady pressured him for marriage recently, Amulya reportedly rejected her proposal and even threatened to kill her.

Dejected, the lady doctor approached the town police seeking justice and lodged an FIR against Amulya. Following the incident, Amulya has reportedly fled the area fearing arrest.

Narrating her ordeal, the lady doctor said, “When I asked Amulya about our marriage, he denied my proposal saying that I belong to scheduled caste category and he can’t marry a girl from a lower caste. If I continue to pressure him for marriage, he won’t hesitate to murder me."
