Lady doctor accused of negligence and misconduct in Khordha hospital

A doctor at Balipatna CHC of Khordha has been accused of misconduct. The incident occurred late Saturday night when a man identified as Baisidhar Barik from Turintira village complained of severe chest pain and was immediately rushed for urgent treatment.

According to reports, the attending lady doctor allegedly neglected the patient’s treatment and behaved inappropriately with his family members. Things reportedly escalated when the doctor called the police and the patient was detained for a brief period inside the hospital premises.

Following the incident, the patient’s relatives and several local residents gathered at the health centre and staged a protest, expressing their outrage over the alleged mistreatment. They demanded strict action against the concerned doctor. 

On the other hand, Balipatna Medical Superintendent Dr. Srikant Behera stated that the patient’s relatives also reacted aggressively, they allegedly misbehaved with the doctor, blocked her car for some time, hurled abuses, and even threw slippers at it.

While the accused doctor has not yet given any public statement regarding the allegations, hospital authorities have confirmed that they plan to file a counter-complaint in response to the confrontation. The situation remains tense as both sides await further investigation.

“The patient’s life is of utmost importance to us. I instructed the staff to immediately provide him with an oxygen cylinder, keeping everything else aside. However, they have now raised allegations of misbehaviour and misconduct. The other side will also present its version, and the matter will be addressed through proper legal procedure,” said Dr Srikant Behera, Superintendent of Balipatna Community Health Centre.
