Nabarangpur: With incessant rain triggering flood-like situation in Nabarangpur district, the woman block development officer (BDO) of Kosagumuda, Shantiprava Pradhan has set an inspiring example in the time of distress.

The official took a precarious trip with relief and rescue personnel to the marooned villages for which she has been lauded in social media as well as on other platforms.

Crossing the overflowing river on a boat and later wading through knee-deep water, Pradhan visited as many as three panchayats of Kosagumuda block, which have been completely marooned following heavy rain in the district.

Pradhan who was also accompanied by a team of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and local tehsildar also made a halt at Ghatabasuli village until late night and monitored the rescue and relief operations by herself.

Sharing her experience, Pradhan said, “Many people have been stranded after water entered their villages and it is our responsibility to provide them relief materials. Therefore, I along with my team and ODRAF personnel visited the flooded villages and distributed relief. This is not a very big thing as this is my duty as an OAS officer.”

“My entire team was with me. The villagers, sarpanch, panchayat executive officer (PEO), all of them co-ordinated well and a police team was with us. If one is co-ordinated in such extensive manner, s/he will automatically gather courage to do anything,” added Pradhan.

Not only this, Pradhan also reportedly walked for three kilometres through the muddy paths to reach Barogam village today. She visited the village to supervise the relief and rescue operations.
