Dhenkanal: Tension gripped Tumusingha area of Kamakhyanagar today after a labourer was electrocuted to death while 2 others sustained grievous injuries after coming in contact with an 11-KV live wire in the district.

The deceased has been identified as Srikant Behera, a resident of Harijan Sahi in Dhobabahali of Dhenkanal district.

According to sources, the labourers were engaged in construction work of a Homeopathic hospital when they accidentally came in contact with the live wire.

While Srikant died on the spot, two others labourers Akhi Jena and Ajit Behera were rescued and rushed to Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital.

Following the mishap, hundreds of irate locals blocked the Alujharan-Bhalumunda route by placing the dead body on the road demanding compensation for the kin of the deceased.

"We demand compensation for the kin of the deceased so that their family members will get some relief," said a villager Birabara Behera.

"The mishap occurred due to the negligence of the contractor. We urge the government to provide justice to the family of the deceased. We will continue our protest until the demands are met," said a local Smutesh Kumar Nayak.

Meanwhile, Pandua police has reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident.

"We are holding talks with the locals and taking all possible steps to help the kin of the deceased," said Assistant Sub-inspector of Pandua Rasananda Nayak.
