Labour unions continue strike, demand RDC inquiry

Bhubaneswar: Members of three labour unions continued their strike for the second day on Wednesday demanding revenue divisional commissioner (RDC) inquiry into the alleged firing by CISF jawans two days ago. The members have also demanded IOCL to bear the medical expenses of the injured being treated in SCB medical, Cuttack and identity cards for the contract labourers.

On Tuesday members of Oil Refinery Labour Union, Oil Refinery Contract Labourer Co-operative Society and Maa Vaidehi Labour Union congregated at gate no 4 of the refinery where the alleged firing took place Monday. CISF DIG Kumar Vinay Singhdeo reached Paradip last evening to take stock of the situation.

On Monday as many as eight people including some labourers were injured at the refinery as CISF jawans allegedly opened fire. Scuffle between the jawans and the labourers gained momentum when some workers without gate pass reportedly tried to force enter into the plant premises at gate no 4. The security forces allegedly opened fire at the labourers when situation went beyond control.
