Bhubaneswar: A day after the state government declared a new Grant-in-aid (GIA) policy for all Block-grant teachers from April, BJP legislature party leader K V Singhdeo on Thursday raised the GIA issue of the Block-grant lecturers in state Assembly.

“Why the state government is delaying to take any decision regarding the GIA policy of the Block-grant lecturers even if the three-member committee constituted under finance minister has submitted its report,” asked Singhdeo during Zero hour.

“The lecturers of 488 and 284 categories are on strike for last 83 days and the government must take a decision without any further delay,” Singhdeo said.
It may be noted that the lecturers have threatened to launch civil disobedience movement from Friday.

Former finance minister Prafulla Ghadei too demanded to sort out the issue of the lecturers. Voicing concern about the issue Ghadei said, “the government must take a quick step to resolve the GIA issue of the 488 and 672 category lecturers as soon as possible.”

BJD’s Pradeep Maharathy and Ranendra Pratap Swain too echoed the voice of Singhdeo.

The lecturers have also threatened to boycott Plus II and Plus III annual examination duties and evaluation of papers if their demands are not fulfilled. They alleged that sanction of block-grant to a section of GIA deserving lecturers and employees of existing aided colleges is in complete violation of constitutional provision of equal pay for equal work.
