Bhubaneswar: The death toll of Odia labourers in the Kurnool quarry blast in Andhra Pradesh rose to six with one more labourer succumbing to his injuries late on Saturday night.

The labourer, identified as Rama Chandra Nahaka of Nuagan village under Rambha police limits in Ganjam district, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam yesterday.

Ramachandra's body is expected to reach his native village today.

Another worker identified as Pandab Lenka of Brahmagiri area in Puri district who was injured in the mishap died while undergoing at Vishakhapatnam hospital on Thursday.

Lenka's last rites were conducted by his family members after his body reached his native village today.

All the six labourers were working in a stone quarry at Hatti Belagal village of Aluru block in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh.

At least 15 persons were killed and several others were injured in a blast at a granite quarry near Hathi Belgal village in Alur mandal of Kurnool district on August 3.

Former Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda condoled demise of the Odia labourers in the tragedy today.

"Hope the Govt turns investor-friendly, stops harassing local industries and generate more employment opportunities," tweeted office of the former MP.
