Koraput: A youth from Maliguda area of Damanjodi in Koraput district lost Rs 3.15 lakh after being lured by a conman into a fake online lottery scheme.

The complainant, Bhimsen Gouda, alleged that a couple of days back he received a call from a man who introduced himself as Rana Pratap Singh working at Reliance Jio in Mumbai.

Gouda was told that he won a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh in a lottery scheme and in order to claim the lottery money he had to deposit the tax on the total amount.

Later, Gouda deposited Rs 3.15 lakh in different bank accounts belonging to the accused in a span of 15 days.

However, he became suspicious when the accused asked him to deposit Rs 70,000 more.

“I had deposited the amount in separate bank accounts of the person. Now he is asking for Rs 70,000 more. I have sought time till Monday to deposit the amount,” said Gouda.

Gouda said he was initially tight-lipped over the fraud as the caller had threatened him of losing all the prize money if he lodged a complaint with the police. But Gouda decided to approach the police and lodge a complaint in this regard.
