KISS student strangulated to death: 5 employees detained for ‘suppressing matter and procedural lapses’

The investigation into the murder of a Class IX tribal student at the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) here widened on Wednesday, with police detaining five officials of the institution in connection with the case.

Police on Wednesday detained three more KISS employees for questioning, taking the total number of staff members held so far to five. According to sources, the three employees were brought to Nandankanan Police Station, where they are currently being interrogated. 

Earlier, Infocity Police had detained two other staff members as part of the probe.

Police officials said the questioning is aimed at reconstructing the sequence of events that led to the student’s death. While no formal arrests of staff members have been made yet, the detentions are part of efforts to gather further evidence. The investigation is ongoing, and all possible angles are being examined, police said.

Meanwhile, the Twin City Commissionerate Police confirmed earlier in the day that the student was murdered, contradicting the institute’s initial claim that the boy had died after slipping inside a hostel bathroom. Police stated that the student was assaulted and strangulated inside a hostel washroom following a dispute.

So far, three students have been detained in connection with the murder. Senior police officers said preliminary findings clearly indicate homicidal violence rather than an accidental fall. The case is being investigated by the Infocity Police Station on the basis of a Zero FIR. Further developments are awaited as the probe continues.
