Cuttack: A day after the prime accused in the Kishore Nagar rape and murder case was arrested, the family of the rape victim denied the government compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh on Saturday. In an utter frustration, they refused the district administration to receive the amount, sources said.
 
Accused Durga Prasad Das (32), a neighbor of the 25-year old rape victim, was arrested near Manguli square on Friday. He confessed to his crime before police.
 
According to police, the victim had been repeatedly rejecting the proposal of Durga who wanted to marry her. On the fateful day, the accused abducted her on the way when the victim was returning home from a local market. He forcibly took her to nearest Mahanadi river bank and tried to outrage her modesty. A tussle ensued between them while the woman resisted. Irked, the accused stoned her leaving in an unconscious condition. Then he raped before throwing her into the river.
 
The family members of the victim traced the body floating in the river Mahanadi near Tarito village in the following morning. They lodged complaint with police alleging that their daughter was thrown in to river after rape.
