Bhubaneswar: Will top Maoiost leader Sabyasachi Panda don the mantle of Kishenji who was killed in police encounter in West Bengal? Kishenji was the unquestionable leader of the left wing extremist organisation who was operating from Junglemahal. It is leant reliably that the Central Committee of the CPI(Maoist) has decided hand over the baton to Sabyasachi Panda alias Sunil. Sources said that the decision to appoint Sabyasachi Panda in the palce of Kishenji was taken at the two-day crucial Central Committee meeting held at Ghatsilla in Jharkhand from December 4. The meeting was attended by West Bengal secretary Asim Mandal alias Akash, Kishenji`s brother Venugopal and Prashant Bose alias Kishendada, among others.

The meeting also passed the resolution that Sabyasachi could take operational decisions on his own and need not seek consult Akash for any strategic decision. Sources also said that the cadres operating in Junglemahal have been apprised of the crucial decisions of the Central Committee.

Sabyasachi Panda alias Sunil, who tops the most wanted list in Odisha is known as a master strategist and has been involved in many a sensational naxal operation in the state. He was involved in the Nayagarh armoury loot incident, in the killing of Swami Laxamananda and also the attack on G Udayagiri jail and police station.

He was one of the founders of the Kui Lawang Samaj and was instrumental behind the spread of naxal network in the state, mostly in southern Odisha. His wife Milli Panda at present is lodged in the Gunpur jail.

The Maoist organisation has become considerably weaker in the Junglemahal after the killing of Kishenji while Akash hardly has the confidence of the Central Committe members. The Central Committe hence has decided to put Sabyasachi Panda in the commander`s seat. The intelligence wing of the police establishment however were not prepared to buy the report of Sabyasachi`s appointment.
