Five days after the murder of a transgender person in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, police are yet to arrest any accused, deepening concerns over safety and justice. The incident, earlier reported from the nearby area of CIFA (Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture), has triggered anger and anxiety within the transgender community.

On Thursday, fellow transgender persons took out a silent torch procession demanding justice for Anjali, the victim. The rally began at Master Canteen Square and proceeded up to Ram Mandir Square, with participants holding torches and urging authorities to immediately arrest those responsible.

Despite the passage of several days since the crime, police have not been able to trace the accused. Protesters questioned the delay and called for swift and transparent action.

According to Puri Superintendent of Police, several suspicious items have been seized from the crime scene. A special police team has been formed and is investigating the case from multiple angles. Police have assured that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the culprits at the earliest.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the safety of transgender persons and the demand for timely justice.

“Scientific team has collected evidence from the spot. We are also probing the case from all probable angles to find out who are involved in this incident. This is a random incident for which we have formed a special team and are thoroughly probing it,” Puri SP Prateek Singh expressed to OTV when contacted.

Worth mentioning, the deceased Kinnar was then identified as Anjali, also known as Sona. Investigators suspect the involvement of more than two persons in the crime. In connection with the case, Pipili police have so far questioned over 10 individuals.

As part of the ongoing probe, police are examining CCTV footage from multiple locations to trace the movement of suspects and gather further clues. Footage from cameras installed along the Uttara Chhak stretch up to Bhubaneswar and Puri have been scrutinised.
