KIIT Hooliganism: No action against ‘culprits’ yet, CP slaps cases against OTV journos

Bhubaneswar: In a development that could put Commissionerate Police action under scanner and prove its tilt towards people in power, Infocity police slapped cases against OTV team including its reporter and video journalist basing on a complaint filed by KIIT.

The move of police appears to be ‘motivated’ as the senior officials of Commissionerate Police are yet to nab the miscreants particularly the goons in the guise of security guards of KIIT who first attacked OTV team when they had gone to cover allegations of land grabbing by KIIT in Bhubaneswar. An FIR was immediately lodged by the team.
Instead of taking action against the ‘culprits’ behind the attack on working journalists, Commissionerate police registered cases against OTV team which has elicited sharp reactions from different quarters.

“Whatever we have learnt from various sources is that OTV journalists were attacked and FIR was registered. But now basing on the counter filed by KIIT, police registered cases against OTV team. As 48 hours is a long time and if the incident occurred in presence of police, they should have recorded the statements and acted as per law,” said senior lawyer, Madhu Madhav Jena.

Jena further stated that police not arresting the culprits is a matter of concern. It seems that police is under pressure or else action against attackers should have been taken after investigation.

It is pertinent to mention here that OTV team was assaulted and attacked on June 30 while covering land grabbing allegations levelled by one Chandradhwaj Sahoo against KIIT. The entire act of assault by KIIT goons and some officials of the educational institute was recorded on camera. The incident also occurred in presence of senior police officials of Commissionerate Police.
