KIIT group clash: 5 detained by police; 2 hostels vacated
Bhubaneswar: The Infocity Police today detained 5 persons and registered 2 cases in connection with the violent group clash that broke out between two student groups of KIIT University yesterday allegedly over passing lewd comments to a student.
“Two cases have been registered in connection with this incident at the Info city police station. Based on the CCTV footage and inputs from students, action will be taken against the culprits,” informed Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty today.
While KIIT college authorities have vacated two hostels to avoid any untoward incident, they have clarified that sine die has not been declared yet.
Earlier on Saturday, students were seen hurling stones and attacking each other with wooden planks inside the university campus.
Sources informed that palpable tension was prevailing over the past few days owing to some lewd remarks made against a student. It is alleged that students resorted to vandalism inside the campus after the varsity authorities did not take any action.
