Khurda: Locals block NH 57 after group clash

Khurda: Irate locals today blocked the National Highway-57 demanding the arrest of perpetrators after a group clash erupted at Pubusahi in Khurda following an altercation over rash driving.

According to sources, one group attacked another in the presence of police after an altercation broke out over an overtaking maneuver involving a bus and a motorcycle.

Following the incident, locals blocked the Khurda-Bolangir NH-57 affecting vehicular movement. Amid escalating tension, one platoon police force has been deployed. The Khurda Town Police Station IIC and SDPO have reached the spo to take charge f tt.

According to sources, a group of youth from Sardhapur came to Pubusahi and launched an attack on the locals. Irate over the attack, Pubusahi locals staged a road blockade demanding arrest of the attackers, informed sources.

The police have registered the complaints and have assured action against the accused, said sources adding that police are also planning to set up a peace committee to bring the situation under control.

Police is in discussion with agitating locals to restore normal vehicular traffic, added sources.
