Kharif season Paddy procurement to begin from November 5
Sambalpur: The government will begin procurement of paddy for the Kharif season from November 5, informed Food Supplies Minister Surya Narayan Patro today.
The paddy procurement will begin from Bargarh and Kalahandi districts followed by other districts, informed Patro.
The government has set a procurement target of 55 lakh tonne of paddy this Kharif season, 40 percent of which will be collected from the western districts.
No farmers will be returned from the mandis or procurement points, said Patro.
Patro further said “Farmers will be given their due within 48 to 72 hours of procurement. No delay will be made in disbursement of payments.”
The District Collectors have been directed to issue warning to millers who make a delay in providing receipts, Patro said.
Commenting on the looming drought threat, Patro said “Arrangements will be made to disburse crop insurance claims to farmers based on the reports given by the District Collectors.”
