CuttackBali Yatra, this year, has featured exquisite wooden handicrafts from Karnataka, attracting considerable attention from visitors. Crafted from expensive rosewood, the collection includes finely carved wooden artworks, sculptures, and colourful handmade decorative pieces. Some of these intricate items are priced at several lakhs of rupees.
According to stall owners, the paintings are carved out of wood and painted using natural colours. The average-sized carved paintings and frames take nearly two weeks to complete.
One of the showcased artworks depicts the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu (Dashavatar) and has been priced at Rs 95,000. The large piece reportedly took around two months to finish and weighs approximately 40 kilograms. The vendor added that he personally assists customers with installation due to its weight and mounting difficulty.
Origin And Craftsmanship
“This collection is from Mysore, Karnataka, and entirely handmade; all items are made from black rosewood,” the vendor said.
The craftsmanship reflects a blend of traditional techniques and detailed artistry that has long been associated with the Mysore region.
Visitors Appreciate Unique Work
Visitors at the fair have expressed admiration for the craftsmanship and design. “These are very beautiful and entirely made of wood. I have never seen anything like this before,” said a visitor from Puri, Odisha.
