Kandhamal shocker! Class 9 student gives birth in government high school hostel

A disturbing incident surfaced on Sunday from Kandhamal district where a Class 9 student has given birth to a baby boy, triggering concern and prompting a police investigation.

The incident was allegedly reported from a government high school hostel in the district. Following the development, the school’s headmaster and the student’s family lodged an FIR at the local police station. Police have registered a case and begun an investigation into the matter.

According to sources, the minor had gone home during school holidays last year and later returned to the hostel after the vacation ended. A few months ago, it was discovered that the student was pregnant. After learning about the situation, the school authorities called her family and sent the girl back home.

Recently, the student gave birth to a baby boy. However, reports indicate that her health condition is currently not stable, raising further concern for the young mother.

After the family filed a complaint, police initiated a probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. So far, no official reaction has been received from the school authorities or the police regarding the progress of the investigation.

When contacted, Kandhamal district welfare officer (DWO), Rabi Narayan Mishra, said, “The matter is under the Administration’s notice. An FIR has been filed at the local police station regarding this. We are following the existing Standard Operating Procedures and will conduct a thorough probe into this matter and will definitely take appropriate action.”

“Anyone found involved or culpable will certainly be punished according to the law. The seven-month period you (OTV) mentioned will also be a primary focus of our probe. If she was attending school for such a long time, how did the school administration, those involved, and the hostel management not become aware of it? This will be the main focus of our investigation. We will definitely take all necessary actions in accordance with the law. We will proceed with the required steps,” the Kandhamal DWO added.
