Kandhamal police seize 21,000 kg of contraband worth Rs 30 crore during ‘Operation Neel Jahar’

In a major breakthrough, Kandhamal police on Saturday seized thousands of quintals of ganja hidden in forests across the district. During the raid conducted under Operation Neel Jahar, the police seized ganja worth around Rs 30 crore in over two days, targeting multiple police station jurisdictions.

The operation saw approximately 2,150 quintals of ganja confiscated from five police station areas. Specific seizures included 10,000 kg from Phulbani Sadar, 4,500 kg from Gochapada, 2,500 kg each from Baliguda and Phiringia, and 2,000 kg from K Nuagaon. Authorities are continuing investigations to identify the individuals responsible for hiding the ganja in forested areas.

Massive Seizures Across Kandhamal

Since January, Kandhamal district has witnessed the seizure of a total of 26,790 kg of ganja. Authorities registered 44 cases across various police stations and arrested 74 individuals in connection with these operations. Among those arrested, 11 are women, and 25 vehicles used in transporting the drugs have been confiscated.

Ongoing Efforts to Make Kandhamal Drug-Free

Subham Bhosle SDPO, Baliguda said that raids were conducted across multiple areas of Kandhamal following information received from reliable sources for the past two days. Approximately 21,000 kg of contraband, valued at around Rs 30 crore, was recovered.

Police have urged locals to cooperate with authorities and report any suspicious activities to ensure continued success in curbing the illegal ganja trade.
Operation Neel Jahar has become a significant milestone for Kandhamal police, reinforcing their determination to dismantle the ganja network and ensure the district remains drug-free.
