Kandhamal observes Dharmaraksha divas, security beefed up

Kandhamal: Security has been beefed up in Kandhamal district following the observance of Dharmarakshya divas by the followers of Swami Lakshmananda Saraswati on Thursday who was assassinated some four years back.

While patrolling is tightened throughout the district, security personnel have been asked to remain alert in the bordering entry and exit points.

To mark the occasion, several programmes are being held in Jalashapata and Chakapada villages.

The death of Lakshmananda led to a religious violence and riots, following which a Commission of Inquiry was set up headed by justice Sarat Chandra Mohapatra. While 40 witnesses are still to record their statements, the government has not taken steps to advance the inquiry.
