On the one side, this district is famous for famine and starvation deaths and on the other side it is rich with agriculture. Kalahandi is largely an agriculture based economy. As per India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar, seven districts in Odisha experienced heavy rainfall (115.6 mm to204.4 mm).

As per IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar, the southwest monsoon has entered through South Odisha today. While it has fully covered the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nabarangpur, it has partially touched parts of Nuapada, Kalahandi and Rayagada districts.
The arrival of monsoon is certainly a positive sign as it will be crucial for agriculture. As per IMD, some parts of southern Odisha experienced rainfall activities today.
IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar has predicted thunderstorm activities in several parts of the State till June 17.
