Jumbo tragedy: Central team to submit report to Union Environ Min
Bhubaneswar: A two member central team led by Wildlife ADG SS Garbyal on Saturday said they would submit a report on elephants’ death to the Union Environment and Forest Ministry.
After a meeting with the Forest and Environment Minister Bijayshree Routray at Secretariat here, Wildlife ADG SS Garbyal said, “We have collected information from the state forest department and would soon submit a report to the Union Environment and Forest Ministry.”
The team will also be meeting the officials of the Khurda Road Railway division, added Garbyal.
Meanwhile, stepping up his attack on the Railway department Odisha's Forest and Environment Minister Bijayshree Routray said, “The Railway has violated the norms in case of putting up signage and speed limit. The central team has realized the railway's negligence.”
AM Singh, IG, Wildlife (Project Elephant) is also part of the team which is visiting the state to probe a mishap in which six elephants were killed near Rambha in Ganjam district.
The visit of the central team is quite significant when the state government and Railway department have been playing a blame game over the death of the pachyderms.
On December 29 at least six elephants including two calves were killed after being hit by Coromandel Superfast Express train in Ganjam district.
