Mineral rich District, Jharsuguda is one of the most industrially developed District of Odisha. Jharsuguda District was established on 1st January, 1994. Earlier it was a part of Sambalpur District. It was created by amalgamation of the erstwhile Jamindars of Rampur, Kolabira, Padampur and Kudabaga. Major portion of the land area covering hilly region has a radish stony soil. The economy of the Jharsuguda District can be judged through its natural resources. The District is rich in minerals like coals, quartzite and fire clay. Several industrial units like Vendanta Alumina, Bhusan Steel and Power, TATA Refractories are operating in the District that contributes to the economic growth of the District. There are also some major forest products like Kendu leaves, wood, rice and leather that also contribute significantly to the economy of Jharsuguda District.
Making a statement in Odisha Assembly, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said the state government has decided to seek the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States of America for behavioural analysis of the main accused Gopal Das.
The assassinated minister used to have a stronghold over the coal and transportation business. His dominance over the ash and mineral transportation and coal business grew soon after 2004 when he entered into active politics.
Constable Saroj Das, who is working at Kolabira police station in Jharsuguda district, has been transferred to the reserve office of the district police headquarters following his remark against Sai.

As per reports, the ganja-laden SUV was detected by a police team during patrolling. Sources said that as the vehicle had a flat-tyre, the occupants of the car were replacing it when the police team reached the spot.
Das was brought to Raipur from Gandhinagar via air and then he was taken to Jharsuguda via road amid tight security. At present, he is lodged at the Airport police station located at Talapatia, sources informed.

The condolence meeting was held at the Sarabahal school ground to observe deceased Naba Das’ 12th day ritual. Huge number of supporters and political bigwigs including Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik attended the event.
Taking up the petition for hearing, the court today said it will be ‘too early’ to hand over the case to the central probing agency.
Amid the ongoing probe into the case, Gopal Das was on Wednesday seen laughing nonchalantly at Jharsuguda airport as if nothing has happened. He was seen bursting into laughter while he was waiting for being taken to Gujarat for his narco-analysis test.
A CB team along with the local police took Gopal to Gandhi Chhak in Brajarajnagar today where he had shot Health Minister Naba Das from a point-blank range on January 29.
Naba Das murder case accused, Gopal Das identified the paper as his own handwritten one. However, it will be further sent to the handwriting bureau for authentication.
The Crime Branch (CB) has taken the accused Das on a four-day remand. The question is what more information the CB wants to extricate from accused Das.
