Jeypore: The Jeypore Bus Owners' Association today refused to ply their buses for carrying farmers to Puri for the scheduled launching of KALIA programme on Friday following a non-agreement with the State government over payment.

According to reports, the Regional Transport Office had signed an agreement with the Jeypore Bus Owners' Association for requisition of buses at the rate of Rs 2,800 per day.

But the bus owners have been demanding Rs 50 per km to ply the buses to Puri for the event. The association has said that if the RTO is not able to provide them the amount, they will not run their vehicles out of the district.

"The State government has requisitioned to take 100 buses from the association to carry farmers for the event but they have clarified that they would pay only Rs 2,800 per day per bus which is insufficient for us. We demand Rs 50 per km and the amount should be credited to the bank accounts of bus owners," said Durga Prasad Tripathy, secretary of the Private Bus Owners' Association.
