Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who accompanied by chief secretary Gokul Chandra Pati visited Sambalpur today, granted Rs 100 crore for the development of underground water supply system and another Rs 60 crore for the reconstruction of three culverts there.

Under the reconstruction plan, the Dhobijora, Haradajora and Dangana culverts will be repaired and revived, sources said.

Patnaik visited the western city of the state to take stock of situation after the outbreak of jaundice which claimed 17 lives there.

Prior to this, the chief secretary and Health & Family Welfare minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak had visited the city to review the measures to contain the disease.

According to State government, while the death toll reached 17 including two deaths on Sunday, as many as 1,270 are affected with the water-borne disease.
