Khurda:Two children have died and about 50 others have been affected due to spread of jaundice in seven villages under Tapang and Bajpur panchayats in the last one month. All those who have been affected including the deceaseds were under 10 years.

Eight-year-old Rashmita from village Anda under Tapang panchayat was affected by the dreaded Hepatitis virus. Rasmita`s mother sobs inconsolably as she lost her dear daughter about a fortnight back due to the disease. Not just Rasmita, another girl Subhasmita too succumbed to the disease. Both were below ten.

Nearly fifty other children, all below ten, have been undergoing treatment for suffering from Hepatitis. The children affected hailed from Mahatpalla, Anda, Banmalipur, Basant, Raipur and Haripur villages under Tapang and Bajpur panchayats.

Though medical teams have arrived for treatment, the doctors have failed to acertain the reasons for the sudden spreading of the disease. It was feared that the disease might spread to more villages.
