Bhubeneswar:Health minister Prasanna Acharya launched the much hyped Janani Surkshya programme, aimed at proivding medical care to new born babies and the mothers, at a glittering function today. The minister flagged off the Janani Express to mark the occasion.

The state government, with a view to check infant mortality rate in the state, would provide free food as well as medical care both to the mother and the new born child for 30 days after the birth. The government required additional funds to the tune of Rs 5.5 crore for the programme, the minister told.
