Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader Senayangba Chubatoshi Jamir is most likely to be appointed as the governor of Odisha, according to a senior official of the ministry of home affairs.

An official notification in this regard is expected soon from President Pranab Mukherjee’s office. Regarding the appointment Jamir told media that he was apprised of the development but not yet received any official confirmation from the government.

The octogenarian, a five-time Chief Minister of Nagaland, has also served Maharastra and Goa as governor. He was the Chief Minister of Nagaland in 1980, 1982-86, 1989-90, 1993-97 and 1997-2003.

Jamir, first nominated as a member to the Lok Sabha in 1961, was appointed as the parliamentary secretary of then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Muralidhar Chandrakant Bhandare, who was appointed as the 43rd governor of Odisha on August 21, 2007 has been continuing office since then.
