Sambalpur: A Maoist put up in the women`s jail here gave birth to a boy, official sources said. Undertrial Maoist Shamwati Dubey alias Ushendi, lodged in the Nari Bandi Niketan-Women`s Jail-was admitted in the district headquarters hospital on Sunday after she had labour pain.

The rebel, who hails from neighbouring Chhattisgarh, had normal delivery and both the mother and baby were doing fine, hospital sources said. Meanwhile, the jail and hospital authorities had alerted the superintendents of police of Sambalpur and Bargarh districts about it.

The jail authorities had taken measures to provide all facilities for her well-being ever since she was brought to the prison and now efforts were being made to solmenise the 21st day celebration ritual during which the baby is given the new name, official sources said.

Shamwati and two other ultras-Ramwati and Azad-were arrested in Bargarh district while proceeding to nearby Nuapada in July, this year.
