Jagatsinghpur farmers launch protest demanding compensation for crop loss
Jagatsinghpur: More than hundred farmers staged demonstration in front of the tehsil office today demanding compensation for crops damaged in unseasonal rainfall.
According to sources, the farmers claimed that unseasonal rainfall has caused major damage to crops and the administration is yet to take note of the extent of damages. The farmers demanded immediate crop damage assessment by the officials and release of compensation. The farmers threatened to intensify their agitation if their demands are not met within 4 days, sources added.
“As the administration is yet to undertake crop damage assessment, the farmers have been forced to take to the streets,” said Japa sarpanch, Tapan Gochayat.
Earlier on December 12, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), BP Sethi, in a letter addressed to the collectors of 5 districts, had sought report on damages to crops due to unseasonal rainfall.
