Jaga's health condition normal; Kalia needs medical care: Doctors

Bhubaneswar: A team of doctors from Odisha led by Health & Family Welfare Department Secretary Shalini Pandit visited AIIMS, New Delhi and reviewed the health condition of the separated conjoined twins Jaga-Kalia.

While the health condition of Jaga is better than before, Kalia is yet to recuperate completely, informed the doctors, adding that Kalia needs advanced treatment.

Last month, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had requested Union Health Minister JP Nadda to advise AIIMS, New Delhi authorities to continue treatment of the separated conjoined twins. In a letter, Patnaik had said that the twins have not become fit enough for home care.

Prior to that, parents of the separated conjoined twins had requested the State Government to get the twins shifted to a hospital in Odisha from AIIMS, New Delhi so that they can stay near their home.

The two craniopagus twins from Milipada village in Kandhamal district were successfully separated after an 11-hour marathon surgery at AIIMS, New Delhi by a team of 30 specialists from neurosurgery, neuro-anaesthesia and plastic surgery departments on October 25, 2017.

The matter had come to the fore after OTV first broadcast the news following which the State Government extended financial aid and other support for their treatment.
