Bhubaneswar: Soon after the Jharpara Jail camp court reserved the verdict on hearing of Delhi-based journo Abhijit Iyer's bail plea and extended his judicial custody by 14 more days, criticism poured in from political circles and senior journalists who condemned the dictatorship rule of the Odisha government especially CM Naveen Patnaik for misusing powers in instigating a prolonged ‘fake’ probe into his remarks.

Smelling a conspiracy in this, former MP Baijayant Panda stated that after the government failed to trap him in the 'fake chopper case', it is implementing a new tactic on Iyer in order to forcefully obtain false statements against him.

Despite Mitra apologising multiple times, questions were today raised on what actually the Odisha Police are investigating.

Editor of Outlook India, Ruben Banerjee tweeted, “And I wonder what the brave #Odisha police are investigating? A terrorist plot behind the @Iyervval tweets? This is truly ridiculous and I believe even sane Odias will also find this sickening.”

In response to this, Jay Panda, mentioning the State government of misusing lawyers’ strike and terming the rejection of Mitra’s bail plea a conspiracy, took to Twitter and stated, “What to "investigate" after he acknowledged his comments AND profusely apologized. State misusing lawyers strike (Odisha courts closed for 3 months!) to fascist ends. Open secret: after fake chopper case on me collapsed, this is new tactic to coerce a false statemnt against me!”

Jay Panda further criticised the ‘fake’ investigation in this case and said while National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) reports claim a 50 per cent rise in crimes against women and children in the State, no resources are available for probe.

Responding to another tweep, the former MP tweeted, “Though many Odias took offence at his satirical videos, he has already publicly apologised multiple times, including before the Odisha house committee! 28 days in jail without bail while police "investigates" further, when no resources to check 50% spike in crimes against women/children (per NCRB)?!!”

In another tweet, Panda had said, "Now Abhijit Iyer-Mitra has repeatedly apologised, on TV & in person before a committee of the Odisha Assembly. We Odias can be proud of our heritage & take offence at certain comments, but we must also show magnanimity & accept apologies."

BJP leader Prithviraj Harichandan also came in support of Jay Panda and said, "Whatever Baijayant Panda has mentioned regarding 'conspiracy' is not baseless. The activities of Odisha government clearly indicate the mala fide intention."

Meanwhile, in response to Jay Panda's allegation of conspiracy, BJD spokesperson Samir Dash stated that law will take its own course and police is doing its duty.
