IRS officer accused of sexual assault in Bhubaneswar, police begin probe

An Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer was accused of raping a woman at government quarters in the Satsang Vihar area of Bhubaneswar. The allegation also includes claims that the act was recorded and that the accused threatened to circulate the video.

Complaint And Police Action

Following a complaint lodged by the victim, Saheed Nagar police registered a case and launched an investigation.

The victim’s statement was recorded after her medical examination, and police subsequently inspected the quarters of the accused IRS officer. At the time of reporting, the officer had not been questioned.

Allegations Against The IRS Officer

According to reports, the victim had initially accompanied the accused’s sister-in-law to his residence when his wife was unwell.

Later, the IRS officer allegedly called the victim to his house and raped her. It was claimed that he recorded the incident and threatened to make the video viral. The victim further alleged that she was raped on multiple occasions under the same threat.

The victim reportedly requested the accused to delete the video and not circulate it. However, when the IRS officer allegedly began blackmailing her, she approached the police.

Investigation Continues

Police stated that further action will be taken if evidence is found against the IRS officer.

At the time of investigation, the officer was not available at his quarters.

Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh said, “A thorough investigation will be conducted based on the allegations. No one will be punished solely on the basis of allegations, nor will anyone found guilty be spared.”
