Irregularities surface in road construction work in Cuttack

Cuttack: Allegations of severe irregularities have surfaced during the road construction work carried out under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS/MGNREGA) in Baharabamphu village under Nischintakoili block in Cuttack.

According to sources, bills worth thousands of rupees were allegedly made for road construction work under MGNREGA in the name of villagers who are currently not residing in the village.

Locals also alleged that the road construction is yet to be started.

“The road has not been constructed following which people are facing problems. I have not seen any road construction work being done here. They might have issued false bills,” said a villager Kailash Panda.

After the allegations of irregularities cropped up, the local BDO has assured to launch an investigation into the case.

“The matter has not come to my notice yet. If such allegations have been made, an inquiry will be done and action will be taken in this regard,” Nischintakoili BDO, Suresh Pradhan said.
