Nayagarh: Several students have brought allegation of discrepancies in the Chief Minister's scholarship scheme for the annual high school certificate (HSC) examination in Nayagarh district.

The students alleged that the Chief Minister during State-level Children's Day celebrations last year had announced for a scholarship of Rs 5,000 for 20 students who will secure highest marks in the matriculation examination from schools in NAC and 100 toppers from each block.

However, there have been massive irregularities allegedly in the selection of names of students under the merit list prepared by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) Odisha. As a result, several eligible students have been deprived of the benefits under the scholarship scheme, alleged local residents.

“I was shocked after finding my name was not there in the list. I have tried to draw the attention of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik through Twitter,” said Amit Mohapatra, a student.

Nayagarh district education officer, Abhay Nayak on the other hand informed that the entire merit list has been prepared by Board of Secondary Education.

“I do not have any information regarding the selection procedure. But I will definitely take up the matter with officials if any deserving student has been left out,” said Nayak.
