Bhubaneswar: A massive manhunt is underway by the Commissionerate police to nab notorious pimp Sunil Meher who once again managed to escape from the police raid yesterday, in which a Russian sex worker was rescued from posh Sri Vihar area here.
Police sources said several special squads have been formed to arrest Meher who is believed to have gone underground in the capital city.
Though Somesh Panda, who was arrested during the Wednesday raid is yet to divulge details about his links with Meher in connection with the case, police strongly believes that the latter is the mastermind of the international sex racket involving the Russian sex worker.
During interrogation Panda has revealed that the Russian was brought to Bhubaneswar two days back from Kolkata, to be engaged in immoral activities. The girl who had landed in India on February 25 had agreed on a ‘deal’ with Panda though a Kolkata middleman.
Investigating officials said, Panda had been engaging foreign girls in flesh trade in the capital city after signing ‘special’ deals with them. Police also got to know that Panda was targeting club members, event managers and business tycoons to get handsome amount.
Meanwhile the Commissionerate police has sought help of emigration authorities to verify the Russian’s passport and other details.
“We will be able to know details about the lady only after getting information from the authorities,” an official on condition of anonymity said.
“We are questioning both Somesh Panda and the girl to understand further details including how the girl was brought here, how their network operates and their associates here,” he added.
