Internet services have been suspended in Sundargarh for 24 hours following a clash between two groups on Thursday. The district administration has ordered the shutdown from 6 pm today for the next 24 hours as a precautionary measure.
In view of the prevailing tension, prohibitory orders under BNS Section 163 have been imposed in the region. To maintain law and order, 10 platoons of police force have been deployed in the sensitive areas.
Western Range DIG Brijesh Rai has appealed to the public to maintain peace and harmony. He has also directed the Superintendent of Police to convene a peace committee meeting to resolve the situation amicably.
As per reports, the incident occurred at Regent Market earlier today, where two groups clashed and resorted to stone pelting at each other. Following the clash, severe tension prevailed in the area, prompting the administration to deploy additional security forces to prevent further escalation.
"Two groups clashed and pelted stones at each other at Regent Market today. Following the incident, police forces were deployed in the area, and BNS Section 163 was imposed. The situation is currently under full control," said Sundargarh ADM Abhimanyu Majhi.

"Prohibitory orders under BNS Section 163 have been imposed in the region. People are urged to maintain law and order and cooperate with the administration. Police patrolling has been intensified, and around eight to ten platoons of police force have been deployed in the area. The administration is hopeful that public cooperation will help restore peace in Sundargarh. The Superintendent of Police has been instructed to convene a peace committee meeting to resolve the situation amicably. The Superintendent of Police and the District Collector are jointly monitoring the situation, and necessary actions will be taken as required. Further investigation into the incident is underway," said Western Range DIG Brijesh Rai.
