Inter-state pangolin smuggler arrested
Nayagarh: In a major breakthrough, the Special Task Force of the Odisha Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested one Allaha Rakha from Dashapalla area in the district in connection with smuggling of pangolin scales.
As per reports, a team of officials of Mahanadi Wildlife Division had earlier on June 18 arrested the father of the accused Shamsuddin Khan for his involvement in smuggling of wildlife products for over two decades. Later, the CB took over the investigation.
While interrogating Khan, the STF officials came to know about the involvement of his son Allaha Rakha and launched a manhunt to nab him.
The CB team has reportedly moved the court seeking remand of Allaha Rakha for interrogation.
Meanwhile, the STF has started investigation to nab all others who are involved in the inter-state smuggling racket.
Pangolin is a Schedule I animal and is one of the most trafficked animals in the world. While one pangolin is sold at a price of Rs 12,000 in Odisha, it costs more than one lakh outside the State.
