Bhubaneswar: The newly appointed police commissioner of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma on Sunday stated that the police would soon start intelligence based operations to strengthen community policing system.

“Though police-public interface has been started at several police stations to bridge the gap between the locals and police, intelligence based operation would definitely help the police to prevent petty crimes in respective localities,” Sharma said.

Talking to media after a police-public interaction meeting here, the top cop said that the informers must be fearless and prompt enough to inform the police regarding any unsocial activities in their localities.

“We are assuring that names of the informers will be kept confidential while dealing with such cases. Besides, phone numbers of some officers will be given to the public to share information,” added Sharma.

The official responding to queries about recent spurt in crimes in the state capital, stressed on co-operation from public and lauded the courage of a bullet-hit youth who recently helped the police nabbing a chain snatcher in Bhubaneswar.

“For sure, our top priority would be to check anti-social activities in each and every locality. But we need co-operation from the local residents. And for this, we have started concentrating on crime prone areas such as Off shop liquor stores, malls and shopping complexes. I believe we’ll soon overcome all the issues including the traffic woe by increasing manpower,” maintained he.
