Flight disruptions caused by IndiGo’s massive operational breakdown over the past week continue to plague passengers at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar. As of Thursday morning, eight scheduled departures have been cancelled from the state capital amid persistently high airfares running until the end of this year.
For Thursday, airport officials confirmed that services on the Bhubaneswar–Kolkata, Bhubaneswar–Dehradun, Bhubaneswar–Chennai, Bhubaneswar–Goa, Bhubaneswar–Mumbai, Bhubaneswar–Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar–Hyderabad, and Bhubaneswar–New Delhi routes were cancelled through the day.
The airport has set up a 24-hour control room to support stranded or affected passengers. Travellers may contact the helpline at 8280749239 for verified updates on operations, airport procedures, and rescheduling options.
Airport Director Prasanna Pradhan said the control room would remain operational until services return to normal and added that coordination is underway with the airline to manage congestion and minimise delays for those still scheduled to fly.
Elevated Fares Intensify Travel Strain
The disruptions have coincided with unusually high year-end fares across major domestic routes from Bhubaneswar. Again, as of this morning, ticket prices from the 11th of December to the 31st of this month ranged between (for round-trip, non-stop flights):
- Bhubaneswar–Kolkata: Rs 11,300 to Rs 16,000
- Bhubaneswar–New Delhi: Rs 15,800 to Rs 23,900
- Bhubaneswar–Hyderabad: Rs 9,900 to Rs 15,100
- Bhubaneswar–Bengaluru: Rs 11,400 to Rs 20,400
- Bhubaneswar–Pune: Rs 16,400 to Rs 26,100
Cancellations And Missing Luggage
The week began with reports of abrupt cancellations and luggage-handling lapses at the IndiGo counters in Bhubaneswar airport. Several passengers described long waits, last-minute flight cancellations, and difficulties tracing baggage from previous journeys.
A traveller on the Bhubaneswar–Hyderabad–Bhubaneswar route reported that their return flight concluded without baggage being delivered, prompting repeated visits to counters in search of updates.
Airport Authorities Monitoring Situation
BPIA officials said they remain in continuous communication with IndiGo and are managing queues, offering assistance for missed connections, and advising passengers to arrive early and check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
Additional staff have been deployed across departure and arrival areas to ensure information flow is uninterrupted. No comments could be received from IndiGo regarding the latest cancellations and disruptions at Bhubaneswar airport.
