Rourkela: The Income Tax department on Friday conducted simultaneous searches on the residence and offices related to Indrani Patnaik Mines in Rourkela and different parts in the State. Although the exact reason behind the raid is yet to be ascertained, it is being suspected that the searches are being conducted on charges of alleged tax evasion.

According to reports, the income tax officials are conducting simultaneous searches in at least 16 places across the State including the owner of the mines company and industrialist, Indrani Patnaik and her husband Dipti Ranjan Patnaik's residence and offices in Rourkela.

Since the past few years, Dipti Ranjan Patnaik is the highest taxpayer in Odisha.

Sources said, an 18-member team of income tax department are conducting raids at Indrani and her husband's residence and offices since the morning.

The company's mines and offices in Joda area of Keonjhar district are also being searched by the officials, reports added.
