Incessant rain wreaks havoc in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: Road communication between Malkangiri and Balimela on Saturday has been severely disrupted after water flowed over a bridge at MV-39 village following heavy rain that lashed the region yesterday.

Hundreds of commuters are now stranded on either side of the bridge due to the flash flood-like situation in the region.

According to reports, it is for the second time in past 20 days that the 3 to 4ft of water is flowing over the bridge. As it is a low-level bridge, it frequently gets submerged in case of heavy rain in the area.

The locals are demanding for urgent measures on part of the district administration for the construction of a high-level bridge.

Senior officials of police and administration are hopeful the road communication will normalise after the water recedes in the three to four hours.
